Plans for the 2011 Season

A "Repertory" Performance Season

The eighth year of our summer festival season will once again we’ll feature operas out of the classic repertoire in full-staged, modern-dress performances.  Our audiences have grown significantly, however, so instead of single performances, we'll offer either three or four performances each of two "standard repertoire" operas in "rotating rep" over the course of two weekends.

Chamber Ensemble

Each of the 2010 SRP performances has featured some extra color in the accompaniment.  The Midtown Winds (a woodwind quintet) joined us for Le nozze di Figaro, our fantastic music staff rotated chairs to provide a second keyboard for each of the operas in Il Trittico and flutist Lisa Dispigno plays the "alter ego" of the title character in Lucia di Lammermoor.  For the 2011 SRP we plan to expand upon this practice, with a small chamber ensemble for each of the two operas.  Interested musicians should contact us as soon as possible if interested in participating.

Repertoire and Casting

Repertoire for the 2011 SRP is up to you!  Since we are committed to casting singers only in original language "debut" roles (they may have done concert, English or partial roles), we  are cast as Experienced singers (especially men) with particular repertoire  We will post applications on-line in the fall and announce our auditions (to take place in January).  We encourage men with significant experience  Our presentations offer audiences a glimpse into the process of learning a role, while witnessing talented and exciting young artists singing what is usually their first performance of a new role, or sometimes any major role!
