    Matthan Ring Black (Angus) is a baritone with a reputation as a dramatically engaging performer
    and fierce arts advocate. Called “simply magnificent” by Chicago Classical Review, they
    said “Matthan wields his muscular baritone with extraordinary finesse and artistry,“
    calling his performances “wholly credible from start to finish.” John Von Rhein of the
    Chicago Tribune has called him a “smooth, robust baritone with excellent diction.”
    Matthan has performed in the Chicago premieres of Sumeida’s Song and Amelia and
    in the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Lyric Unlimited productions of Jason and the
    Argonauts, The Scorpion’s Sting, and Fellow Travelers.
    Matthan is a founding member of Chicago Fringe Opera where he performed in The
    Rape of Lucretia, In The Penal Colony, and Lucrezia and in The Magic Flute,
    Giovanna D’Arco, Der Kaiser von Atlantis, Die Kluge, and Gianni Schicci as a
    young artist with Chicago Opera Theater
