    Markel Reed is a native of Charlotte, N.C. Being a wonderful interpreter work of the standard operatic cannon, Mr. Reed recently expanded into the realm of modern composers. Some roles of note include John Sorel in The Consul, Josiah in Harriet, the Woman Called Moses, Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Dancaïre in Carmen and Il Conte in Le nozze di Figaro. This Summer with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Mr. Reed originated the role of Chester in the world premiere of Terence Blanchard’s Fire Shut up in My Bones. He makes his Metropolitan Opera Debut this Fall in the Ensemble of Porgy and Bess. He has also performed with Utah Opera, Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Kentucky Opera and Bronx Opera. Mr. Reed pursued his Bachelors of Music Performance at Oakwood University and is an alumnus of the University of Kentucky Opera Theatre program.
