Marie Marquis

    Hailed by the New York Times for her “extraordinary virtuosity and elegance,” emerging soprano Marie Marquis is an artist who always seeks to marry poetry with exquisite musical line. She was named Debut Artist of the Year in 2016 by Joy in Singing. 

    Marie honed her vocal prowess in residencies at the Tanglewood Music Center, Songfest at Colburn, and Aspen Opera Center.  Recent performances include appearances with Heartbeat Opera, Cincinnati Song Initiative, Music on the Hill Festival Chorus, The Academy of Sacred Drama, Brooklyn New Music Collective, and Ars Musica . Her opera credits include Adele in Die Fledermaus, Belinda in Dido and Aeneas, multiple roles in Susan Kander’s News from Poems,  Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, Pamina in The Magic Flute, Josphine in HMS Pinafore and Miriam in Frank Bridge’s A Christmas Rose. Marie will join dell’Arte Opera Ensemble this summer to perform the title role in Cavalli’s La Calisto. 

    Marie holds bachelors degrees in Music and French from Peabody Conservatory and Johns Hopkins University and a masters degree in vocal arts from Bard College. In addition to singing, Marie is a black belt in tae kwon do, and she enjoys knitting, hiking, and baking cinnamon rolls.
