Jay Lucas Chacon, baritone from Phoenix, AZ returns to dell’Arte this summer as Barone Duphol in La Traviata and as Rodolfo in Act I of Leoncavallo’s La Bohème. He recently performed the role of Handsome in La Fanciulla del West with Apotheosis Opera and covered Schaunard in La Bohème with Saint Petersburg Opera Company (FL). In recent seasons, Jay has appeared as Innkeeper/Governor in Man of La Mancha with Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, L’orloge Comtoise in L’enfant et les sortileges with Utopia Opera, and made his debut with dell’Arte Opera Ensemble covering Figaro in the Paisiello Il Barbiere di Siviglia.
Jay has also been a member of the Austin Opera chorus and sang with Union Avenue Opera and Winter Opera Saint Louis. An active recitalist, Jay has created numerous programs. His program “From Bach to Berg; a Tribute to Dietrich Fischer Dieskau” has been programmed at Cornelia Street Cafe in Greenwich Village in NYC and Tavern of Fine Arts in St. Louis. Jay was a member of Spotlight on Opera where he sang the title role in Gianni Schicchi, Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana, and Sam in Trouble in Tahiti. Jay also spent three summers with the Austrian American Mozart Academy in Salzburg, Austria where he sang Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, the title role in Le nozze di Figaro and Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus.
