Principal
Completed undergrad education. At minimum, some professional credits (not necessarily in leading roles) and/or some leading role credits (in educational institutions or no-pay-no-fee situations). Emerging professionals (managed or unmanaged) who wish to add important core roles to their repertoire are especially encouraged to apply.
Supporting
Completed undergrad education. At minimum, some educational role credits and some post-graduation assignments (scene workshops, summer program. Singers in supporting roles may cover a role in a second opera and/or sing leading roles on the Scenes program.*
Comprimario/Ensemble
At least enrolled in an undergrad program. Most smaller roles are generally drawn from our very active ensemble. We strive with our stage directors to create meaningful ensemble experiences with individualized characterizations and as many solo situations as are musically possible. Singers in the ensemble and comprimario assignments may also participate in a second opera and/or on the scenes program* and present songs on the recital.
Covers
Covers must be as prepared as the primary singer assigned to the role. dell’Arte provides some free coaching to covers. If a cover is called upon to move into the primary (performance) position, additional coaching is provided free of charge. Covers may be assigned ensemble responsibilities.
* The 2020 Festival will not include a scenes program.
