    Daniela Candillari

    Maestro Candillari continues to impress with many forays into contemporary opera repertoire, and made her L.A. Opera debut leading Ellen Reid’s new opera, p r i s m.  She recently made her Lyric Opera of Chicago debut with Gregory Spear’s Fellow Travelers, leading to a reengagement for the following season Jack Perla’s An America Dream.  She also led Du Yun’s Pulitzer Prize winning opera Angel’s Bone (including dell’Arte alumnus Kyle Pfortmiller, baritone) and her Opera Philadelphia debut with Rene Orth’s Empty the House, coproduced with the Curtis Institute of Music.  She will conduct the West Coast premiere of Jennifer Higdon’s Cold Mountain at Music Academy of the West in summer 2019, and make additional debuts with Arizona Opera and Cincinnati Opera.     Alumni Update: John Spencer IV

    Maestro Spencer has joined Theater Kiel in Germany for the 2018-2019 season with the impressive title “Solorepetiteur mi Dirigierverpflichtung” (repetiteur with conducting duties).  John’s work with dell’Arte goes back several years to working as a rehearsal pianist several years ago, followed soon after with his conducting debut in 2013 leading a performance of La clemenza di Tito. Later assignments with the company included leading productions of  Le nozze di Figaro and La traviata.  Maestro Spencer made his Sarasota conducting debut in 2017 in Bizet’s Carmen, gaining critical acclaim for “brilliant” and “dynamite” performances.  He has also served as associate/cover conductor at Des Moines Metro Opera (Britten’s Billy Budd, and Jonathan Dove’s Flight) and led Don Carlo with Vocal Productions NYC.  www.johnspenceriv.com

    Brittany Goodwin named as Stage Director for 2017 La Calisto

    We are proud to announce Brittany Goodwin as Stage Director for Cavalli’s La Calisto for our August 2017 UNTAMED! Festival. Brittany made her dell’Arte debut as Stage Director of Act I of Puccini’s La Rondine on the “Scenes from the Demimonde” program, and as Assistant Director for La traviata. The previous spring, Brittany made her opera stage directing debut with Felix Jarrar’s Fall of the House of Usher at the Dimenna Center of Classical Music. She serves as Artistic Director of speakNOW theatre co. where she devises new works on current social issues across Northern NJ & NYC (upcoming tour: Public Privacy). A four year resident of Writer’s Theatre, Brittany’s new adaptation of Alice in Wonderland is premiering this month.

    2017 Young Artist Program Applications Open

    APPLICATIONS are open NOW on YAPTracker.com  Free accounts are available on YAPTracker for completing the application. Approximately 35 – 40 singers will be chosen for our 2017 Festival repertoire, including Janáček’s Příhody lišky Bystroušky (The Cunning Little Vixen, in Czech with chamber orchestra); Cavalli’s La Calisto (in Italian with period instrument ensemble); an “Untamed!” scenes program (to include excerpts from Pelléas and Mélisande, Rusalka, Don Pasquale, Carmen and more); and a song recital entitled “Wild Things.”

    This is an extended TUITION FREE program (some modest stipends available) featuring private coachings, master classes in languages, acting and style, an intense rehearsal process, and repertory performances of great operas, right in the heart of Manhattan! Most activities take place on weekday evenings and weekends to accommodate the schedules of singers still in transition between school and a full career.  For more information please see the Program Description.
