Mezzo-soprano Wendy Neikirk is quickly establishing herself as a versatile and captivating artist, delighting audiences throughout the United States. Upcoming engagements include Octavian (cover) and Annina in Der Rosenkavalier with the New York Opera Forum and a performance of Debussy’s Chanson de Bilitis at New York City’s renowned Liederkranz Society. Earlier this season, Ms. Neikirk sang Zweite Dama/Knaben in Die Zauberflöte and Dangeville in Adriana Lecouvreur with the New York Opera Form. During the summer of 2006 she appeared as Madame de l’Haltière in Cendrillon and La Chatte/L’Ecureuil in L’enfant et les Sortilèges with Intermezzo Opera in West Palm Beach, FL. From 2004-2006 Ms. Neikirk performed many roles and scenes with LSU Opera in Baton Rouge, LA. Characters included Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Mercedes in Carmen, Mother Jeanne in Dialogues of the Carmelites, Zweite Dama in Die Zauberflöte, Augusta Tabor in The Ballad of Baby Doe, and Mrs. Jones in Street Scene. Additionally, she appeared with LOOP (LSU Opera Outreach Program), which brings opera scenes and abridged operas to Baton Rouge-area public school children in a fast-paced, interactive format. Her performances included Dorabella in Così fan tutte, Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, Marquise in Daughter of the Regiment, Marcellina in The Marriage of Figaro, Third Lady in The Magic Flute, and Pitti Sing in The Mikado. An expressive concert artist, Ms. Neikirk is the mezzo-soprano soloist at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Manhattan where she enjoys performing a variety of sacred repertoire, including selections from Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and St. Matthew Passion, and Mozart’s Mass in C Minor. Ms. Neikirk has been a Young Artist with Intermezzo Opera and a Scholarship Artist with the Berkshire Choral Festival. She holds a Masters of Music in Vocal Performance from Louisiana State University, a Graduate Certificate in Dalcroze Eurhythmics from Carnegie-Mellon University, and a Bachelors of Music in French Horn Performance and Music History from Wheaton College. An experienced and innovative arts administrator/fundraiser, Ms. Neikirk has held positions with a variety of organizations including the New York Philharmonic, LSU School of Music and Opera, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and Boston Lyric Opera.
